Once again, Goran 'G-Unit' Faulkner, showed his class, winning the 2-day weekend event - KING'S LOOT OPEN 8-BALL TOURNEY - used to celebrate the organizer's birthday, Nicholas 'Kingfish' Linton. As seen below, it was all smiles across the board, with both organizer and players enjoying the successes of the event, hosted over the February 22 & 23, 2020 weekend.
The Congratulations should not stop flowing anytime soon, after the staging of King’s Loot Open 8-Ball Tournament over the weekend. This goes out, not only to persons on the receiving end of the cash and trophies, but also to the other participants, who made all on-lookers aware of their presence, with their level of play and the upsets left in their wake.
Two participants were most certainly deserving of a special highlight due to their spectacular performances, which exceeded expectations. Jerome “Dancer” Pink, a player fairly new to major tournaments, cleared his path to the winner's side finals, where he was eventually sent packing, by none other than Goran. When he got to the loser’s side final, he met with Roy, who returned the favor, by treating him to a defeat, with a similar margin as their first encounter, on the winner’s side.
Lincoln “Link” Campbell, another of the younger players who will be making a mark on the sport, if he chooses to stay on this path. His level of play is nothing short of exciting, and he could become a household favorite for future events. Goran “G-Unit” Faulkner being a fan favorite, did as was expected, by knocking opponents out of his way in fine style. He stomped his class on every match played, throughout the tournament, proving that he is the top gun.
However, what would a major tournament be without upsets?
Other big guns in the tournament, such as Cassius, Jordan, Jerome Y. and Calhoun were all treated to defeats in their first matches. Jerome Young exited after meeting with Jordan, where he was defeated 4-1. Calhoun and Cassius were making strides until they were both presented with a 4-2 defeat by Emelio “Milo” Sommerville respectively. Roy, after losing to Jerome Pink, showed why he is a true veteran. He held on, and delivered some truly spectacular games, which led him to a meeting with Goran in the grand finals. The final score, which was a 6-1 defeat, in no way took away from his master class performance, throughout the tournament.
As expected, discrepancies came about, but with logical reasoning and the willingness to compromise, were quickly resolved. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the number of persons scheduled as referees fell from five to two. A special thanks to all the persons who chipped in and assisted with officiating.
For the persons who were competing in Montego Bay for the first time, the HQ Crew, your presence was truly appreciated. For those who came in support of their Rumpanions, and eventually decided to participate, we truly valued your time and support as well.
Games were put on hold for a while, to make way for an important impromptu moment of recognition, which was offered to a stalwart of the sport, Mr Walter “Stretch” Robinson. With so many new and upcoming members of the fraternity, it was the most opportune time to give him the recognition deserved. It was also the perfect time for the new persons to be introduced to him, and to acknowledge the dedication and commitment that his contributions have made, in the development of this legacy we are now sharing.
A total of four females were amongst the competitors. All but Grace went down 4-1 in their first match up. Grace went 2-0 up against Goran and this had the crowd in a frenzy. He eventually went on to beat her 4-2.
A separate playoff was hosted for the females with a random draw. This eventually saw Grace and Kerry F meeting in the finals, in which Grace came out on top, earning her the title, Most Outstanding Female of the event. Pictured above is Natasha Brown, one of the four females who participated.
The event ended as follows:
1st place - Goran
2nd place - Roy
3rd place - Jerome P
4th place - Lebert
5th place - Warren
6th place - Peter Yen
7th place - Damar
